This is the aim of the One Book, One Community program being sponsored jointly by the Portsmouth Public Library and Shawnee State University’s Clark Memorial Library from August – October 2007.

What does this involve?

A task force formed of community members including representatives from both libraries, Shawnee State University, the media, local schools, and local arts groups

Publicity in the form of newspaper articles, radio spots, and a web site (www.onebookscioto.net) will encourage the community to read the book, attend related programs, and participate in book discussions

Why do it?

The One Book program will focus attention on literacy in our community by encouraging everyone to read

The program will give everyone a common base for discussion and serve as a community building event
